For 2009 NJASLA EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE Posts
The NJASLA Executive Committee and Election
Committee is searching for leaders to assist in important decisions and
activities to advance landscape architecture in the state and
nationwide. The open positions for the October, 2008 through September,
2009 ASLA calendar year are:
President-Elect-3Year Commitment
One of the primary purposes of the office of president-elect is to
provide the opportunity to become familiar with chapter members and
their concerns, current chapter programs, budget and operations. he term
of the president-elect is also used for planning and transition. By the
time the elect assumes the office of president, he or she should have an
annual program, have completed committee appointments, created a budget
and an annual calendar.
General duties and responsibilities of the office
usually includes the following:
1] Aiding the president.
2] Presiding in the president's absence or when called upon by the
president.
3] Representing the president at his/her request.
4] Assuming the presidency in case of resignation, etc., until the post
is filled according to the chapter's bylaws.
Second Vice President-2
Year Commitment
The second vice president should be as familiar with the
business at hand as is the president. He/She should be able to preside
at any meeting at a moment's notice and should, therefore, receive a
full agenda from the president prior to the meeting, study it
thoroughly, consult with the president about the agenda and the backup
or supporting material which will be presented at that meeting, and
should be prepared to conduct the meeting in the event of the absence or
delay of the president. The vice president should also consult with the
president in terms of the "strategy" which might be used at that
meeting. The vice president is expected to be an active leader and
liaison for task forces and committees formed to serve the Chapter
interests.
Treasurer
is "keeper of the funds, trustee of the accounts, and keeper
of the chapter financial records." The treasurer receives and disburses
funds and should keep a permanent record book showing the detailed
account of all monies received and paid out.
The treasurer must prepare a report and financial statement
for all meetings as well as for an annual report.
The NJASLA administrative staff provides professional
bookkeeping to assist the Treasurer.
